You can quickly calculate your carbon footprint by using our calculator below.

Your carbon footprint will tell you the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted by you through a combination of the car/s you drive, the flights you take and the electricity, gas and/or oil that you consume.

Once you have calculated your CO2 emissions in tons you can either:

  1. work to reduce them (according to the Stern report the planet can stand about 3 tonnes per person so most of us have a way to go)
  2. pay to offset the greenhouse gases that were generated on your behalf. Offsetting prices vary but £10 per tonne is about average (although it can go as low as £7.50). You can spend this money on a number of projects designed to reduce emissions globally. For example, buying low energy lightbulbs for people in Kazakhstan will prevent more CO2 being emitted than if you installed them in your own home as their power stations are dirtier.

If you choose 1) then we can help you now and if you choose 2) in the future then hopefully the cost of offsetting will be reduced!

So how can ECO-St help?

Let's assume your carbon footprint is 10 tonnes. We think that you should invest at least this amount in reducing your own carbon emissions. So what should you spend it on? The people who have helped set up ECO-St themselves were asked this question and you can find their answers at (People section). If you go to the Energy Saving Trust they have some good advice (http://est.org.uk/what_can_i_do_today/top_10_energy_saving_measures).

Come and visit us at Eco-St and we'll talk to you about your house and energy consumption and suggest the next best ways of investing your money effectively. This might include standby saving devices, metering devices, radiator reflectors or the replacement of your fridge.
